Where When and Why to Exfoliate

Where When and Why to Exfoliate

It seems like every skin care line has its own exfoliating products. There's a reason for this--exfoliating has a tremendous amount of benefits for your skin.

It is crucial to exfoliate your skin once (maybe twice) a week. And when I say skin, I mean all of your skin, from head to toe. A good exfoliator will remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, improve your skin texture, promote better moisture retention, and control breakouts. All of these are necessary actions for having soft, dewy skin.

Despite popular belief, exfoliating is a practice that should be done year round. It is as important to exfoliate when the weather is warm as it is when the weather is cold. There are different benefits to exfoliating in the summer than there are in the winter, but it is always a worth while practice.

For instance, exfoliating in the summer will do a great job of unclogging pores and improve skin texture. I love to get a good scrub on my face during those summer months because my makeup in combination with my sweat production can lead to some inflammation of my pores that leads to breakouts if it is not addressed. Alternatively, exfoliating in the winter will help shed that dry skin that just seems to creep up again and again in cold weather. No matter the time of year, it is crucial to follow your scrub with a good moisturizer. Better yet, find a moisturizing exfoliator that will do both. Our Sandalwood Sugar Scrub was made to exfoliate and hydrate to leave your skin silky smooth no matter the time of year, temperature, or humidity.

Our sugar scrub is safe and recommended for use on face and body, and we have a few tips for the best spots to use it:

1. Arm Pits: If you shave your armpits and get those little red irritation bumps after putting on your deodorant, you will love using our sugar scrub on your pits. It will unclog the pores from any deodorant build up, calm your razor burn, and smooth the delicate skin there. You'll feel confident raising your arms up in a tank top in no time.

2. Booty: Unfortunately, this is one of those problem areas for many people that can break out in painful or unsightly blemishes. Using our sugar scrub on your bum will take care of that irritation and leave your butt looking immaculate. Exfoliating this area can also promote blood flow and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

3. Knees and Elbows: If these are not the tell-tale aging areas, I don't know what is. Often neglected, the knees and elbow could use a little love from time to time. Exfoliating and moisturizing skin here can soften it and get rid of that thick skin that builds up here over time from so much use and abuse.

4. Lips! Our sugar scrub is safe and gentle enough to even use on your lips. There are no preservatives or toxic chemicals so you don't have to worry about getting it so close to your mouth. What's more, exfoliating your lips with our product will get rid of any residual make up and dry skin and allow your skin to better absorb moisture. If you're feeling extra fancy, use our lip balm after exfoliating your lips with our sugar scrub for maximum hydration.

Hopefully this helps you get the most out of your exfoliator. And if you don't use our product, be sure to follow your exfoliator with a good moisturizer. The two should always be used in tandem. And if you DO use our product, send us some before and after photos and we'll send you some love!
